Characteristics Of Wearable Technology

The vague definition of wearable technology refers to computers that can be worn on the body inconspicuously like clothing, which are not only comfortable but also easy to store and use. However, this definition of "smart clothing" is unsatisfactory on closer inspection. A more clear definition is that wearable computing technology should have many of the following characteristics:

1. Lightweight and ready to use

The most prominent feature of wearable technology is that it can be used while walking or otherwise moving. This wearable technology is similar to the difference between desktops and laptops.

2. Hands-free use

Wearable computers for military and industrial use place special emphasis on hand freedom and attach importance to voice input and head-mounted displays or voice output. Other wearable technologies may also use chord keyboards, dial input and joystick input to weaken the dependence on the user's use of both hands.

3. Sensors

In addition, for user input, a wearable product should have sensors that respond to the physical environment. These sensors may include wireless communication, GPS, cameras or microphones.

4. Instant reminders

A wearable product should be able to send information to the user even when it is not actively used. For example, if your computer wants to let you know that you have received a new email from someone else, it should immediately deliver the message to you.

5. Always working

By default, wearable devices will always be turned on and always working, sensing and displaying. This is in contrast to the general pen-based "personal digital assistant" that is normally placed in a person's pocket and only activated when work needs to be done.
